Initiated in 2004, CEMHD is a multi-year grant received by
the University at Albany in which HCDI functions as a
primary partner linking the University’s research and
practice agenda with the needs of minorities and the health
providers who serve them. This Center is gathering best
practices information and will stimulate research that will
be a resource to our sponsors when considering strategic
approaches to servicing minorities and the maladies that
plague them.
HCDI
is leading the Minority Health Provider Consortium of the
CEMHD which supports hospitals in the region with the
identification of common institutional needs in the service
of minority health; best practices, resources and materials
for addressing staff raining and patient informational
needs; and a forum to engage University, government and/or
community groups to illuminate and redress minority health
needs.
HCDI also leads
the Minority Health Task Force for the CEMHD which has
created 6 brochures to increase awareness of available
health services for primary care, oral health and vision for
the Medicaid insured. Additional pamphlets are focused on
educating African Americans about heart disease, stroke and
diabetes warning signs, prevention and available support
information. This year the MHTF will provide training and
support to health advocates particularly in Albany County.
